How sleep the brave, who sink to rest
By all their country's wishes blest!
When Spring, with dewy fingers cold,
Returns to deck their hallow'd mould,
She there shall dress a sweeter sod
Than Fancy's feet have ever trod.
...
There Honour comes, a pilgrim grey,
To bless the turf that wraps their clay;
And Freedom shall awhile repair
To dwell, a weeping hermit, there!

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said:
"Justice Antonin Scalia was a man of God, a patriot, and an unwavering defender of the written Constitution and the Rule of Law. His fierce loyalty to the Constitution set an unmatched example, not just for judges and lawyers, but for all Americans. We mourn his passing, and we pray that his successor on the Supreme Court will take his place as a champion for the written Constitution and the Rule of Law."
We have lost a truly great man.

PS - Lydia, what's the poem you cited? I like it and want to read the whole poem.

It's a short ode by 18th century English poet William Collins, published in 1746. I cut only two lines. The whole poem is here.

The fallen heroes it memorializes may originally have been English soldiers who fought against the second Jacobite rebellion.
