Time for civil disobedience in California

Under the assumption that the governor is going to sign this bill, California is passing Assembly Bill 2943, which bans "sexual orientation change efforts" as fraudulent business practices, under an extremely broad definition thereof. I wrote about this earlier, with my own predictions about what will happen. Now the bill has passed the CA Senate.

The courageous Michael Brown has called for civil disobedience in California to this law.

By the way, if you ever "follow" anybody on Facebook, consider following Robert Gagnon, who writes about these issues. He's a nicer guy than I am, but he also tells it like it is. Facebook keeps banning him for a day here, twelve hours there, etc., for extremely measured posts in which he criticizes the homosexual agenda, the ideas of Christian groups pushing for compromise with the homosexual agenda, etc.

Oh, and while you're at it, consider following me on Facebook as well.

This law is a direct offense to people who want to be helped.

Stigmatizing "change therapy" as being evil, mainly because some former advocates of certain ill-considered theory, is equivalennt to castigating the entire mental health profession because of some former theories and methods of treatment: does anybody remember phrenology? Lobotomy? How about good ol' electroshock therapy for schizophrenia? Claiming change therapy "doesn't work" because it doesn't work with SOME people is comparable to saying mental health treatment "doesn't work" because it fails some people. Does anybody count the number of suicides in those who DO change their gender with chemicals and surgery? Why doesn't those count against chemical and surgical treatment? Maybe it should be those treatments that are made illegal?

If "gay man" and "straight man" are distinct categories, wouldn't conversion be akin to converting a man into woman? On the basis that men and women are distinct categories, of course. Yet, the LGBT activists call their laughably crude attempts at turning men into women "affirmation". That said, it seems to me one purpose of this law is to establish that "gay men" and "straight men" are distinct categories and not both just men and attempts to convert one to the other must be made illegal because it is per their belief philosophically impossible.

because it is per their belief philosophically impossible

Oh, that was the mantra of the 90's and 00's. We're so past that now! Everybody knows that OF COURSE a person's sexual attraction can change - now that they have done the damage they wanted with "A person can't help being born that way". Except that, naturally, at any time they want to, gays have the right to revive the old saw that they can't change, and then reverse themselves and declare that as with gender, sexual orientation is not "fixed", it is fluid, variable, multi-valent, etc etc etc. Whatever THEY want to claim, that's the "truth for them" and you cannot say otherwise. Whenever you declare YOUR truth, that's offensive and constitutes aggression, bigotry, and discrimination.

The "LGBT" agenda is the perfect example of postmodernism turned into policy. Coherence does not matter; only power matters. This illustrates why I have always detested postmodernism and reflexively chambered a round (metaphorically speaking) when I sense it in the vicinity. Postmodernism attempts to make the world insane. And that is what is happening now.

I am aware of the absurdly over broad language of this law. Yet, I still have no idea what conversion therapy or sexual orientation change efforts actually are. The anguish over these things by the lgbt/progressive crowd seems like much ado about nothing. Even they seem to be unable to explain what these things are. Not conceptually without turning in circles, and definitely not in a structured way, such as listing out a particular therapeutic approach or protocol.

When push comes to shove, I suspect many who ends up on the wrong side of this law will be quite surprised when it happens because they will not have understood what they were doing was a "sexual orientation change effort". They may even be unaware (or really not believe) that "sexual orientation" is some deep down fundamental aspect of human identity.

There is a coherence of sorts to this law. A man who wants to express himself as a woman, so to speak, but still remain understanding of himself of a man can get help. A man who wants to become a woman, again so to speak, can get help. And, a man who believes he is and has always really been a woman can also find help. The only man that cannot get help is the man who is struggling with being a man and wants help embracing his manhood. Men can only get help to "express themselves as" or "become" women and women likewise men. It consistently favors only the insane options and rejects the one sane option. You could not be more correct in saying it makes the world insane.
